The health of our children is something us parents are extremely passionate about. But where do we start with all the information out there without feeling overwhelmed and overcome by mother (or father) guilt. As with most things in health, balance is the key. And as with all aspects of parenting, its best to breakdown some of the healthy guidelines into bite sized achievable pieces focusing on just one or two areas at a time whilst simultaneously considering the bigger picture.

Did you know that not all natural medicines are created equally? And it is not simply a case of something being safe to self-prescribe because it is “natural”. As a naturopath, when you visit me for a consultation I tailor your health program and/or prescription to suit your individual needs. I believe it is what sets our healthcare profession apart, ie, we acknowledge that not one size fits all.

Unfortunately we never put relaxation on our to-do list or in the diary. And, if by some chance of a miracle some R&R is scheduled in, it is admittedly the first thing to be cancelled if life gets too busy. The truth is it should be a daily non-negotiable for our wellbeing.

The beauty of Naturopathy is that we acknowledge that each patient is an individual with different genetics, different health needs and living in different environments. The main premise of holistic care is that “no one size fits all”. This concept is why a diet or a pill that a friend finds amazing may not have the same affect for you. It also acknowledges that as your body changes over the years, so too do your individual needs. And for this reason a Naturopath is best equipped to analyse all of these elements of your health to determine an individualised treatment plan and lifestyle strategy in order to achieve your health goals effectively.

Yeah, yeah, stress…you’ve heard it all before. But what does it really mean to be stressed? And how is it affecting your wellbeing?

It seems every day we hear the word ‘stress’.

“Work is so stressful right now, don’t stress, she must be stressed” are commonly bounced around as part of our daily vocabulary. Even primary school aged children know what the word stress means. I didn’t even need to learn about stress until the latter years of high school!

But, what is stress from a physiological perspective, what is it doing to your body and why is it impacting on your health?

The adolescent years bring the more serious side of health issues. This is where our healthy habits can form the foundations for adult life. Balance is the key and if we can instil a sense of balance in our teens, then it is easy for them to identify times when this balance becomes disrupted. They can then instigate a call to action to help themselves regain balance and overall health.
